Fish
Under the waters of Lake Pertobe you’ll find all types of aquatic critters, including both native and introduced fish. The lakes are home to some of Australia’s smaller native fish including Galaxia maculatus Common galaxiid, Nannoperca australis Southern pygmy perch, Pseudogobius olorum Bluespot goby and Atherinosoma microstoma Smallmouth hardyhead, as well as Anguilla australis Short-finned eel or kooyang.
You will also find the introduced Gambusia holbrooki Mosquitofish that was brought to Australia to eat Mosquito larvae. It’s no better at this than our native fish, which it also attacks and is a declared pest in Victoria.
Lake Pertobe is one of many Family Fishing Lakes across Victoria stocked with Oncorhynchus mykiss Rainbow trout by the Victorian Fisheries Authority. Stocking the main lake before school holidays each year. For tips on how to catch Rainbow trout check out Fishcare Victoria’s website.
